The TV show American Crime season 1 takes place in the small town of Modesto, a suburb from San Francisco surrounded by farms. Most of the time life is peaceful, but there's been a streak of crime, gangs and drug trafficking lately. On all channels appears a news report about a young couple who was attacked in their home; war veteran Matt Skokie was killed and his wife Lily was raped and beaten until she lost consciousness. The tragedy shocked the community, causing racial tensions. Matt's Father, Chuck (Timothy Hutton), travels from Arizona to identify the body of his son. He and his former wife Barb (Felicity Huffman) haven't seen each other for many years as she is still angry with her former husband for his gambling addiction which destroyed their family. Several days pass and no one's been arrested. Soon after, the situation changes and the police look to arrest four suspects. One of them is teen Tony Gutierrez, who's been brought up by his single father Alonzo. He insists that Tony and his daughter Jenny have never had anything to do with any gangs. Problem is, Tony rented out a car from his father's garage to a guy named Hector Tons. The car appears at the crime scene and Tony is arrested. The investigation takes a new turn when the police search the house of the victims and reveal a dreaded secret that will tear apart the lives of everyone involved. TV series American Crime brings forth the controversial topics of racism and brutality, as well as how these events can impact the lives of all those around. The story is told through the eyes of the victims, the accused and their families.
